instead of praising technically excellent details and features (which do exist),
i just want to say that this touches me in a way that i cannot describe
and that this picture leaves me behind with some strange feeling of fresh warmth.
"NINA (reciting Triplev's abstract play)
All men and beasts, lions, eagles, and quails, horned stags, geese, spiders, silent fish that inhabit the waves, starfish from the sea, and creatures invisible to the eye --in one word, life-- all, all life, completing the dreary round imposed upon it, has died out at last. A thousand years have passed since the earth last bore a living creature on her breast, and the unhappy moon now lights her lamp in vain. No longer are the cries of storks heard in the meadows, or the drone of beetles in the groves of limes. All is cold, cold. All is void, void, void. All is terrible, terrible-- [A pause]"

"TRIGORIN
This is a beautiful place to live. [He catches sight of the dead sea-gull] What is that?
NINA
A gull. Constantine shot it.
TRIGORIN
What a lovely bird! Really, I can't bear to go away. Can't you persuade Irina to stay? [He writes something in his note-book.]
NINA
What are you writing?
TRIGORIN
Nothing much, only an idea that occurred to me. [He puts the book back in his pocket] An idea for a short story. A young girl grows up on the shores of a lake, as you have. She loves the lake as the gulls do, and is as happy and free as they. But a man sees her who chances to come that way, and he destroys her out of idleness, as this gull here has been destroyed. [A pause. ARKADINA appears at one of the windows.]"
they had them deleted?
i only hope this picture won't get deleted because i do like it a lot.
you know, if it was emphasizing the fact that it's a dead animal, or
some sort of fetish or joke, then i can understand it being deleted,
but i refer to this bird i found on the beach in a pure and artistic
way;
oh yes, it has the definate aura
of untouchability... maybe because
it's dead or maybe because it would
belong into the air and is now lying
on it's back.
